Both the 206 mile and 140 mile Smoky Mountain Relay courses are stunners, with rolling green mountains, gorgeous rivers, and idyllic farmland as its backdrop. With a smaller field (100 teams) than those other mega-relay events, you’ll have no traffic to deal with, which means plenty of time to soak in the views, support your runner, and tour North Carolina in a unique, fun and challenging way.
Here’s just a sampling of what you’ll see along the course:
Looking Glass Falls is on the drive to Pink Beds.
The start at Pink Beds Picnic Area.
The runner on leg #2 gets magnificent views of Shining Rock.
Support your leg #2 runner and then sneak up a short trail to glimpse this waterfall.
Spring brings the butterflies to the Smokies. It’s not uncommon to see them along the way.
You’ll run through pastoral scenes on your way to Exchange #6.
Van #2 can drive the Blue Ridge Parkway and enjoy the incredible vistas before meeting Van 1. Van 1 has an opportunity to check it out once Van #2 starts.
Leg #8 is on trail – the Mountains to Sea trail to be exact. A unique leg with creek crossings and unforgettable running.
Leg #9 is another trail leg.
You’ll pass countless streams and creeks.
We’ve got some of the most spirited relay teams in the world.
You’ll follow winding gravel roads with views of the Smokies peeking through.
Enjoy the charm of Western North Carolina.
Crossing Tellico Gap is a highlight for everyone, but your runner really appreciates the top!
Spring is green out here. You’ll see more shades of green than you thought possible.
Support your runner on quiet country roads.
The rivers keep coming.
Getting closer to the finish the mountains get higher.
The final leg into Nantahala Outdoor Center takes a private road in.
A peaceful and beautiful setting for a finish at the Nantahala Outdoor Center.
