SIGNATURE SPONSOR: Nantahala Outdoor Center
SMR is honored to announce that we have teamed up with the Nantahala Outdoor Center.
Nantahala is home to world class white water rafting, kayaking, and water sports. It happens to be located at a beautiful intersection of the Appalachian Trail which enhances the atmosphere of this very pristine place and provides us with the unique opportunity to finish the race with the last participant running down the Flint Ridge section of the Appalachian Trail. There they will cross the finish line with their teammates who have spent the last 24 to 36 hours together and experience the euphoria of having finished the most difficult relay race in North America.
SMR and NOC together are excited to provide the ultimate finish line for our runners. As runners arrive, there will be food, drinks, and live music to start of the festivities. Among the many amenities found at NOC, are warm showers, plenty of bathrooms, and even an ice cold river just waiting to be soaked in. NOC also offers lodging in cabins, hotel and hostel style rooms. For your dining pleasure the River’s End restaurant and the Pour-over Pub are located on site.
For this year’s event we are excited to share the finish line festivities with the Kayakers at the Freestyle Shootout, check it out:
The 2012 NOC Freestyle Shootout will be the first official Freestyle event to be held at the newly enhanced Nantahala Wave, designed for the upcoming 2013 ICF Canoe Freestyle World Championships. Come out April 20-22 to be a part of this historic event, and get a ride on the wave before the pros swoop in from around the world.
Made possible through a generous grant from the Golden Leaf Foundation, and commissioned by the Nantahala Gorge Organizing Committee, the 2013 Wave will bring world-class competition to the Nantahala Gorge. The Freestyle Shootout, however, remains open to competitors of all ages and ability levels. Classes and clinics for paddlers of every stripe are also available throughout the weekend; find out more about NOC’s Paddling School.
